Keep Moving Forward!
Last weekend, I took some time off from being active to engage in the popular sport of channel surfing. For me, sitting still for any length of time, especially while watching random television, is not my strong point. However, from time to time I do like to flip through the channels to see what captures my attention.
On this Sunday afternoon, I stumbled upon the animated Disney movie, Meet the Robinsons. As with many children’s movies, there was some great adult humor and more serious “life messages” beneath the lighthearted plot and corny jokes.
The more serious message of Meet the Robinsons was around failure and what to do when its grip becomes paralyzing. If you are a small business owner, you probably will be able to relate to this experience at various points in your journey. At the end of the movie, the screen went blank and one of my favorite quotes appeared:
“Around here, however, we don’t look back for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. “

I wish I had a great picture of myself to insert here, standing on the edge of a cliff, or perhaps about to jump out of a plane, scared about what might happen if I failed.

However, like many of you, I am a business of one, a solo-preneur. And perhaps like you, the moments when I become paralyzed by failure, or fear of failure, are often faced alone (without a cameraman handy). That’s when quotes like this remind me that many great people also experienced these moments. What made the difference was that they KEPT MOVING FORWARD! And so will I.
