How DARING are you willing to be?

A video message from Scott Walkinshaw….

Are you ready to be DARING in order to move your business forward?

As business owners, we can slowly move our businesses along, doing what everyone else is doing and what is comfortable for us, or we can decide to be daring. We can decide to do things that, if successful, will immediately propel our business to the next level.

I would like to challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and to be more DARING!

The “DARING DEED of the DAY” game!

In order to help myself and my clients to be more daring, I created the “Daring Deed of the Day” (DDD) game.

The rules are simple:

  1. A Daring Deed is defined as something that pushes you outside
of your comfort zone AND helps to move your business forward “in a
    BIG way.”
  2. Keep a running list of potential Daring Deeds for you to do.
  3. Keep in mind that something you consider daring may not be daring
    for someone else.
  4. Rate each Daring Deed from 1 (low) to 5 (high) on the “daring scale.”
  5. Each day, commit to completing at least one Daring Deed. If you are not feeling very daring one day, pick one that is low on the daring scale.
  6. Optional: Share the Daring Deed you are committing to with someone else or a group of people, perhaps via Facebook, Twitter or on my Biz Blog.
  7. Complete your Daring Deed of the Day!
  8. Keep a daily journal detailing your experiences playing the DDD game including your successes, challenges, emotions, etc.

Here are some examples from one of my old Daring Deeds lists:

  • Cold calling a prospect I want to work with and asking for a meeting (5)
  • Scheduling a meeting with a potential strategic alliance (1)
  • Calling “X number” of current / past clients and asking for referrals (2)
  • Dropping an activity that I have committed to that is not helping my business (4)
  • Staying off email completely until 6PM and using that time for something else (3)

You may notice that items that previously were Daring Deeds may drop off your list as you become more comfortable doing them. Many of the items on my list above are either no longer on my list or have a lower “daring scale” value.

Are you up for the Daring Deed of the Day challenge?

Please feel free to share your thoughts about this article or post your Daring Deeds below.

  1. My daring deed today was following with contacts from a trade show I did TWO WEEKS AGO. I followed up and I am happy with the results. I had an awesome conversation with one lady which may lead to a speaking engagement in the fall and the other was a frank but friendly no thank you. Chalk it up to a successful daring deed.

  2. GREAT JOB JEANNETTE!! Your Daring Deed lead to an opportunity that may have otherwise been overlooked or lost. EXCELLENT! I’m excited to hear about your NEXT DARING DEED…
